What is laminate flooring? Wikipedia says that laminate flooring “is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product, fused together with a lamination process.” It is made to simulate wood or at times, stone. Its inner core is commonly composed of melamine and fiber board materials. When compared to natural floor materials, laminate floors are cheaper and more durable. When it comes to its maintenance, it is very important to keep them clean. One of the biggest hazards of laminate floors is dust and dirt. It can lead to scratches on the surface. It is also as important to keep them dry at all times. If cleaning it with water cannot be avoided, be sure that you dry it as soon as you can. If left exposed to too much dampness, swelling, deformity and warping of the planks can occur. Always be reminded even if other planks have water resistant coatings. Aside from protecting it from warping, you can also shield laminate floors from scratches by placing adhesive felt pads on its feet.

Hardwood floors are low maintenance types of flooring. This asks for only minimum maintenance and can last for many years if properly taken care of. There are many types of finishing for hardwood floors but in essence, they are all the same.

But keep in mind that some may need extra care when getting rid of stains. The use of a damp mop is the most common way to clean the hardwood floors. Needless to say, you need to sweep or vacuum the floor first because clumping of dirt and dust can occur and can lead to more mess in the house. Like what was mentioned earlier, before cleaning up the floor with a damp mop, make sure that there are no worn patches in your floor. Water can seep through it and make your planks warp. Polyurethane is now applied to the surface of hardwood floors and gives it a shiny and glossy finish. There is also this finish called penetrating seals. It is made up of wax or oil. It penetrates the wood to protect it from the inside.
